The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) has awarded 2025 Pava LaPere Innovation Awards to two Johns Hopkins University teams. These inaugural grants support technology-driven startups founded by students from institutions within the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson area, fostering entrepreneurship in the region.
The awardees are two former HopStart winners: Fetal Therapy Technologies and Somnair. Fetal Therapy Technologies is pioneering microsurgical devices and training models designed for the uterine environment, enhancing the safety of life-saving fetal surgical procedures. Somnair is developing the first entirely non-invasive, clinically effective neurostimulation device for treating obstructive sleep apnea, a condition affecting 54 million Americans and 1 billion people worldwide.
Each team will receive a $50,000 grant to further advance their ventures. Read more about the awards here.
All nine awardees will present their startups at the Maryland Student Venture Showcase on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 5:00-9:00 PM at 4MLK.
