Pamela Sheff will be appointed as the director of the Whiting School of Engineering’s Center for Leadership Education, effective July 1.
Sheff has served as director of the Whiting School’s Master of Science in Engineering Management program since 2014, and has taught as a senior lecturer in the CLE since 2006. She is widely recognized for her leadership, scholarly work, service to the university, and dedication to students.
A seasoned professional, Sheff is the principal and founder of Sheff & Lano Communications, a Baltimore-based firm that specializes in developing market strategies and communications for institutional, corporate, and government clients. She holds a PhD in English from Harvard University and has published scholarly works including the recent “On the Job Training: Using Consulting Experiences to Enhance Students Employability: A Case Study.”
During her years at the CLE, Sheff has taught more than a dozen different courses, including The Culture of the Engineering Profession, Corporate Communications and PR and the graduate-level Strategies for Innovation and Growth.
Sheff is also a founder of the Goucher Prison Education Partnership, a program that provides a high-quality college degree program to men and women incarcerated in Maryland prisons, improving their lives while in prison and creating conditions for success as they re-enter the community.
She succeeds Timothy P. Weihs, professor of materials science and engineering, who was named director in 2010. The CLE was founded in 1996 to provide engineering undergraduate students with management and leadership skills.
