Associate Teaching Professor Leslie Kendrick was awarded the Faculty Advisor Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Marketing Association’s International Collegiate Conference on April 5 in New Orleans, LA. Kendrick has served on the Baltimore AMA Professional Chapter Board as the vice president of collegiate relations for 5 years. She is also the founder of the Baltimore AMA’s Student Job Search Workshop, which she ran for over 25 years as a general volunteer, and she served as an AMA Collegiate Chapters Council volunteer and President for 9 years. As the JHU AMA Faculty Advisor for the past 16 years, she has guided undergraduate AMA executive board members as they manage Nest Strategies—the group’s consulting arm—and develop and implement annual marketing plans which foster professional development of students of all majors.

Athena Zhao, a sophomore ChemBE major and JHU AMA co-president, says that Kendrick has influenced her experience at Hopkins both through her approach and her expertise.

“Serving as the Co-President of JHU AMA and being mentored by Professor Kendrick has been one of the most transformative experiences of my time at Hopkins. Her unwavering dedication, warmth, and generosity have not only shaped our organization but have profoundly impacted my personal and professional growth. She leads with both wisdom and compassion, always making time to listen, guide, and uplift. Her mentorship goes beyond professional advice: it’s rooted in genuine care and belief in her students. You can tell she truly loves what she does, and that passion is contagious and inspiring,” Zhao says.

Kendrick has been with CLE since 2002 and developed the five core marketing courses. She also developed the intersession course PR and Media in the Big Apple, which includes a week-long excursion to New York City to complete site visits at a number of media companies and publishers based in NYC. She also coordinates CLE’s internship program, which allows undergraduates to earn academic credit for applied experiences in marketing, finance and entrepreneurship.
