Shweta Rao Garg is a senior lecturer at the Center for Leadership Education. In addition to being a writer, poet, and visual artist, she comes to the Center for Leadership Education with a decade of teaching experience in India. With a hands-on, reflective approach to teaching, she has introduced hundreds of engineering students to writing, storytelling, theatre, and art appreciation.
Shweta is the author of The Tales from Campus: A Misguide to College (Crossed Arrows, 2024), a graphic novel sensitizing Indian youth to diversity and inclusivity. She is the co-editor of Female Body Image and Beauty Politics in Contemporary Indian Literature and Culture (Temple University Press, 2024). Her collection of poems, Of Goddesses and Women, was published by Sahitya Akademi, the Indian National Academy of Letters, in 2021. Like her writing, her paintings explore themes and tropes from Indian mythology, popular culture, and Shakespeare’s literary world.
She was awarded the Fulbright Doctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She earned her PhD in English from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India, and her master’s in English from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India.
