The Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and the Whiting School of Engineering annually honor faculty who excel in the arts of teaching, advising, and mentoring. Awards are also dedicated to excellence in teaching by a graduate teaching assistant. Prior award winners and undergraduate students are involved in the assessment of the nominees and the selection of the awardees. Whiting School awards are presented at the school’s Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring award ceremony.

For Faculty awards, any professor, instructor, or lecturer who has taught at any level on a regular basis in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences or the Whiting School of Engineering for at least three years may be nominated. Faculty are ineligible to win an award for the same activity more than once in three years.

Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, staff, and alumni may submit nominations. Nominations must include the name and department of the instructor, mentor, or teaching assistant and are expected to provide descriptions of how the nominee has met one or more of the criteria for the award. These criteria include actively engaging students, building community, impacting students’ lives, promoting diversity, and fostering a culture of inclusion. In drafting your nomination, please provide specific, concrete examples of how the nominee has met these criteria.

Nominations for the 2024 Excellence in Teaching, Advising and Mentoring Awards are closed.
