Ali Madooei, an associate teaching professor in the Department of Computer Science, is passionate about computer science education, student engagement, and effective teaching. He is particularly interested in the intersection of pedagogy and technology. Madooei runs the Computer-Oriented Learning Lab (COLLAB) to promote research and development in educational software tools, methods, and practices.
Before joining Johns Hopkins, he taught in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. He earned his PhD in computing science at Simon Fraser University.

The William R. Kenan, Jr. Fund was established to stimulate the adoption of sound innovative teaching methods, particularly in undergraduate education. The Whiting School has re-envisioned this program to help teaching and tenure-track faculty members pursue research in engineering education.
