Tastee Tape, comprising chemical and biomolecular engineering students Marie Eric and Tyler Guarino, won the General Ventures 1 category at the 23rd annual HopStart: Hopkins New Venture Challenge on April 28. The team was awarded $5,000 for winning that category, and another $5,000 from HopStone Capital, a student-led venture capital organization sponsored by the Center for Leadership Education, for best startup idea.

Tastee Tape is an edible tape designed to hold burritos and wraps together allowing for a mess-free eating experience. The tape is clear with no noticeable taste or texture, so that it blends seamlessly into a meal. The project was originally conceived for last year’s Design Day, and has since gotten national attention, including being listed as one of TIME’s best 200 best inventions of 2022.
