About
The BS/MSE program in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering allows undergraduate engineering students to continue their studies toward a Master of Science in Engineering immediately after completing the Bachelor of Science. The Whiting School of Engineering offers a fifty percent tuition waiver for this program after students have completed eight full-time semesters at Hopkins.
Program Options
Students may choose one of two options to complete their MSE degree.
- Research and Coursework Option:
- Students may complete their degree with 18 credits of graduate level coursework and a research essay (with presentation).
- Coursework Only Option:
- Students may complete their degree with 30 credits of graduate level coursework.

Admissions

Admissions decisions are made based on a variety of criteria, including undergraduate GPA. Students are expected to have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.8 (preferably higher) to be admitted to the BS/MSE program.
Application Procedures
- Begin an online application through the Apply Yourself application system.

* Juniors: Select the drop-down for Concurrent/Combined- Request TWO letters of recommendation. If necessary, to bypass the ApplyYourself system’s requirement for three letters, please enter any name in the third option and leave the e-mail address field blank. Letters of recommendation should be requested from faculty familiar with your work in courses and/or laboratory research. Be sure to request these letters at least two weeks prior to the deadline, preferably earlier.
- Attach a Statement of Purpose to your application.
** GRE and TOEFL examinations are not required for admission.
