Nagma Zerin’s academic journey is quite unique and diverse. She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Before pursuing her master’s degree, she worked as a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at Stamford University Bangladesh. During this period, she participated in collaborative research in the areas of antibacterial activity of medicinal plants and microbial contamination of consumer products. She received her PhD degree in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2021. Her PhD research was focused on designing composite polymer electrolytes for application in lithium-ion batteries. After working briefly as a senior R&D scientist in a biotech start-up, she joined the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Hopkins as a lecturer.
Zerin is passionate about teaching and is dedicated to improving the learning experience of the students. Her current educational research areas include understanding the mindsets of students and creating an inclusive classroom.
