Title: Corporate Collaborations for Advancing R&D: Partnerships and Corporate Ventures

Abstract: Collaborations between Universities and Industry are key to advancing next generation technologies. These collaborations can take many forms, and in this talk I will highlight Dow’s collaborations on early-stage research as well as corporate venturing. With a focus on corporate venturing for start-up companies, motivations for corporate investments will be discussed, followed by general guidelines for partnering, how Dow approaches the startup ecosystem, and some specific examples to highlight how these partnerships can be mutually beneficial.

Bio: Katie is currently a Research Scientist and Corporate Technology Scout for Dow, where she has responsibility for vetting and developing new technology and market opportunities across a variety of businesses, applications, and geographies. Prior to becoming a technology scout, Katie worked for Dow Construction Chemical’s business on acrylic R&D, focusing on front-end sustainable innovation. Katie holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and a BA from Haverford College.
