Yayuan Liu, assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and associate faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, recently received an Electrochemical Society (ECS) Toyota Young Investigator fellowship. The fellowship is intended to promote innovative green energy solutions developed from electrochemical research, with a focus on battery and cell energy.

Liu’s fellowship research focuses on developing redox-active Lewis base sorbents whose CO2 affinity can be modulated by applying electrochemical potentials to enable modular carbon capture systems using renewable electricity. In addition Liu researches the development of efficient, economical, and sustainable carbon capture technologies in regard to climate change.
