Marta Martinez Yus, a second year PhD student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, won the Walter B. Cannon Abstract of Distinction Award (cardiovascular section) at the 2023 American Physiology Summit in Long Beach, California. Yus is in the Lakshmi Santhanam Lab. The work presented highlighted the discovery that targeting the enzyme lysyl oxidase-like 2 is protective against the vascular damage wreaked by hypertension in males and elucidated interesting sex-differences in the way hypertension causes damage to blood vessels in males vs. females.
