Ive Hermans is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor and a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He currently serves as associate editor for ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering.

Hermans received the inaugural Robert Augustine award from the Organic Reaction Catalysis Society in 2017 and the Ipatieff Prize from the American Chemical Society in 2019. He was selected as a 2021 Alexander von Humboldt Professor but declined the offer to remain in the United States.

In January 2014, Professor Hermans joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding a dual appointment in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He was co-founding editor-in-chief of ChemistryEurope (Wiley). He became assistant professor in spring 2008 at the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering of ETH Zurich in Switzerland.

Hermans obtained his PhD from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2006. In addition to his scientific education, he also holds a postgraduate degree in business administration (KU Leuven, 2006).
