Sharon Gerecht, the Kent Gordon Croft Investment Management Faculty Scholar, professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and director of the Institute for NanoBioTechnology, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
Membership is considered one of the health and medicine fields’ highest honors. Gerecht and other members of 2019 election class will be formally welcomed to the NAM during next year’s annual meeting, which marks the organization’s 50th anniversary, scheduled for October 17 to 19, 2020 in Washington, D.C.
Gerecht, whose research focuses on stem cells and their microenvironment, especially as applied to tissue repair and regeneration, was elected for “seminal studies on the interactions between stem cells and their microenvironments and for engineering artificial cell microenvironments capable of guiding vascular differentiation, delivery, and regeneration of tissues.”
