Muyinatu (Bisi) Bell, the John C. Malone Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has won the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society’s Ultrasonics Early Career Investigator Award. This is award is given annually to recognize the achievements of a young researcher in the area of ultrasonics and its applications. Bell was recognized “for pioneering contributions to spatial coherence beamforming theory and deep learning methods for ultrasound and photoacoustic image formation.”
The award was presented on October 11 at the 2022 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium in Venice, Italy.
Bell’s research focuses on medical imaging technology, specifically ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging, photoacoustic-guided surgery, robot-assisted imaging, machine learning for image formation, and other cutting-edge techniques created to significantly advance healthcare interventions and diagnosis.
Her lab, the PULSE Lab, deploys innovative biomedical imaging systems that address unmet clinical needs, with an emphasis on diagnostic and surgical ultrasound and photoacoustic technologies.
