The following faculty members of the Whiting School of Engineering were recognized with awards and fellowships.
Muyinatu “Bisi” Bell, John C. Malone Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and a secondary appointment in the Department of Computer Science, was elected as a fellow of Optica “for pioneering contributions to photoacoustic imaging techniques and applications for surgical guidance.”
Paulette Clancy, the Edward J. Schaefer Professor in Engineering, was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Noah Cowan, professor of mechanical engineering, was named a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) “for contributions to sensing, navigation, and control in animals and machines.”
Dennice Gayme, associate professor of mechanical engineering and Carol Croft Linde Faculty Scholar, was named a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) “for the development of reduced order models of wall-bounded turbulent flows and their use in elucidating dominant flow dynamics and processes.”
Hai-Quan Mao, director of the Institute of NanoBioTechnology (INBT) and a professor of materials science and engineering, was named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI)
Thao (Vicky) Nguyen, the Marlin U. Zimmerman, Jr. Faculty Scholar and a professor of mechanical engineering was awarded the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)’s 2024 Van C. Mow Medal, “bestowed upon an individual who has demonstrated meritorious contributions to the field of bioengineering through research, education, professional development, leadership in the development of the profession, mentorship to young bioengineers, and with service to the bioengineering community.”
