The National Science Foundation recently honored six Whiting School faculty members with Early CAREER Awards, which recognize early-stage scholars who demonstrate high levels of promise and excellence. The researchers are:
Raman Arora, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, whose research will focus on a holistic understanding of the generalization phenomenon in modern machine learning, including deep learning
Nicolas Charon, assistant professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, whose research will focus on shape analysis and its applications to medical imaging and computational anatomy
Ryan Hurley, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, whose research will focus on the hypothesis that certain features of local particle rearrangements can quantitatively describe the behavior of 3D granular materials
Abhishek Jain, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, whose research will explore new methods to enable secure multiparty computation
Ilya Shpitser, John C. Malone Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, whose research will focus on developing practical solutions for the detection and diagnosis of gray failure in distributed systems
Joshua Vogelstein, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, whose research will focus on developing new statistical methods and computational tools to map patterns of connectivity in human and nonhuman brains
