Robert Drummond, ’12 Med (MD, PhD)
Director of Laboratories and Lead Clinician, Optum
Co-Founder, Crown Hair Institute

Robert Drummond serves as the director of laboratories and regional lead urgent care physician with the Optum Medical Group in Los Angeles, California, and is the co-founder of the Crown Hair Institute. He is a former Captain in the California U.S. Army National Guard, where he served as the battalion physician. A lead cast member of the Bravo hit TV series Married to Medicine, Drummond has used his platform to educate the public on science and health.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Drummond graduated magna cum laude and phi beta kappa with his BS degree in biology from Morehouse College. He received his medical degree and his doctoral degree in cellular and molecular medicine from Johns Hopkins University. He completed residency training in internal medicine at LAC+USC Medical Center and postdoctoral research fellowship training in hematology at the University of California, Los Angeles.

With a deep passion for mentoring and advancing inclusive excellence in higher education, Drummond is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Johns Hopkins University Award for Diversity, the David Shortle Award for Leadership, the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Outstanding Recent Graduate Award, and the David E. Rogers Award for Medical Professionalism and Community Service.
