Michael Falk, a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, chaired the American Physical Society’s ad-hoc Committee on LGBT Issues.
Their report, “LGBT Climate in Physics” is now available and was released at the American Physical Society’s general meeting last month. Among the committee’s findings: more than one-third of LGBT physicists who responded to the survey considered leaving their school or workplace in the past year; many LGBT physicists feel coerced into hiding their identities; and a significant fraction of LGBT physicists have experienced or observed exclusionary behavior. Inside Higher Ed ran a story about the report.
