Tilak Ratnanather is an associate research professor of biomedical engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering and a member of the Center for Imaging Science and the Institute for Computational Medicine.

Ratnanather’s research focus is the analysis of brain structures such as the hippocampus, cingulate gyrus, planum temporale, superior temporal gyrus, and the auditory and prefrontal cortices as they relate to neurological disorders like schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, depression, and speech and language processing.

His interests include physiological fluid mechanics of the cochlear outer hair cell, the study of nonlinear partial differential equations, and continuing education via online web courses in applied mathematics.

Ratnanather earned his doctorate in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oxford in 1989.
