Steven Marra is a teaching professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He teaches several core lecture and laboratory courses within the department. Marra has developed courses in engineering graphics and mechanical design, and he is the director of undergraduate studies for the department.
He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the recipient of several teaching awards, including the 2019 ASEE Mid-Atlantic Section Distinguished Teaching Award, the 2016 Capers and Marion McDonald Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Advising, the 2013 Robert B. Pond Sr. Excellence in Teaching Award, and the 2013 George E. Owen Teaching Award.
He earned his bachelor’s from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Johns Hopkins in 1998 and 2001, respectively. He worked as a postdoc and lecturer at Dartmouth College in the early 2000s, and as a practicing engineer in New Hampshire before returning to Baltimore in 2010.
