Umesh Korde

Research Professor

Research Interests

Mathematical modeling; wave energy, hydrodynamic control, ecological resilience and control, wave dynamics, quantum theory, variational optimization and control, Fisher information applications.

Umesh Korde’s work focuses on mathematical modeling to enable deeper insights into  natural and engineered systems. The problems he is currently working on include (i) finding ways to understand emergent behavior, (ii) long-term behavior and resilience of ecosystems, (iii) new ways to utilize surface waves for energy, (iv) sustainability and resilience amid disasters, etc.  He is best known for his work in utilization of ocean waves for energy.  His current work is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Sandia National Laboratories, Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, Naval facilities and Expeditionary Warfare Center.  His current external collaborations are with the Johns Hopkins Applied Research Laboratory, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic and NASA Langley Research Center, and the US Naval Academy.  He also consults with Murtech Inc. in MD.
