Yu Sun, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering and a core faculty member of the Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI), has been honored with the Conference on Parsimony and Learning (CPAL) Rising Stars Award.
The award recognizes exceptional early-career researchers in machine learning, signal processing, and optimization. Sun was selected for his paper, “Provable Probabilistic Imaging using Score-based Generative Models,” which introduces two novel methods, PnP-MC and PnP-DM, for tackling ill-posed imaging problems using score-based diffusion models. His work enables high-quality image reconstruction and uncertainty quantification, with applications including black hole imaging.
The CPAL Rising Stars program highlights promising talent while fostering diversity and mentoring in the research community.
