REU Presentation Event

The students in the 2017 Research Experience for Undergraduates Program in Computational Sensing and Medical Robotics (CSMR REU) participated in the Homewood Research Symposium and also presented their work in a final presentation event that was held on August 4, 2017. Eleven students worked for 10-weeks on cutting-edge research projects on the Homewood Campus of JHU. They were mentored by various faculty in the Whiting School of Engineering.

Two students were tied for first place in the final presentation event. They were Mindy Wagenmaker and Margaret Allard. Mindy Wagenmaker was mentored by Dr. Susanna Thon. Dr. Muyinatu Bell mentored the other winner, Margaret Allard. Mindy worked on the project “Designing Photonic Crystals in Strongly Absorbing Materials for Solar Cells and Photosensors”. Margaret’s project was related to “Identifying Optimal da Vinci Tool Orientations for Photoacoustic Guided Hysterectomies “.
