Vishal Patel, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, has been promoted to the rank of IEEE Fellow, one of the highest honors from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, starting January 1, 2026.
Patel was recognized for contributions to image processing, computer vision, and biometrics. IEEE Fellow status is awarded to fewer than 0.1% of the organization’s voting members each year, following a rigorous peer review process.
Patel’s work spans image processing, computer vision, and machine learning, with applications in biometrics, medical imaging, and AI-driven perception systems.
In addition, Patel was recently elected a Senior Member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), in recognition of his research contributions, service to the AI community, and long-standing engagement with the organization.
Patel was also named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for 2025. The designation recognizes researchers whose publications rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication and reflects the global visibility and impact of Patel’s research.
