Vishal M. Patel, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been named to the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers list, an annual global ranking compiled by Clarivate Analytics that recognizes scientists whose publications are among the top 1% most cited in their fields.

Highly Cited Researchers are selected for producing multiple papers that rank in the top 1% of citations over the past decade, indicating both the quality and influence of their work. Johns Hopkins was among only 52 institutions worldwide with 27 or more scholars recognized this year.

Patel is one of 39 Johns Hopkins–affiliated researchers included on this year’s list, which spans 6,868 scholars worldwide. The designation highlights Patel’s influential contributions to computer vision, machine learning, and biometric recognition, and reflects the lasting impact of his research across the engineering community.
