A Hopkins startup team is developing a wearable device that captures detailed gait data through smart insoles. Re-Kinesis, a finalist in the National Institute on Aging’s 2025 Start-Up Challenge, offers a portable alternative to traditional gait labs, making advanced mobility monitoring more accessible for aging and underserved populations.

The team includes CEO Anway Pimpalkar, a master’s student in biomedical engineering; CTO Junjun Chen, an alum of the electrical and computer engineering (ECE) program; faculty mentor Dr. Nitish Thakor, professor of both BME and ECE; hardware advisor Arik Slepyan, an ECE PhD candidate; and AI advisor Sam Bello, a BME PhD candidate.
