Experimental setup to image a rigid 3-D printed vascular network combined with the flexible vessel from the previous set of experiments.

In 2016 and 2017, Neeraj Gandhi and Margaret Allard participated in the Computational Sensing and Medical Robotics Research Experience for Undergraduates program and worked under Dr. Muyinatu Bell in her lab. Their work, documented in the paper titled Photoacoustic-based approach to surgical guidance performed with and without a da Vinci robot, was recently published in the Journal of Biomedical Optics. Their research is the first to coordinate photoacoustic imaging alongside the da Vinci surgical robot while demonstrating a new way to utilize photoacoustic imaging to guide surgeries.
