High performance algorithms for signal and image processing with large data sets

Howard Weinert is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His primary research interests are in high-performance algorithms for signal and image processing with large data sets.

Weinert develops fast compact algorithms for smoothing noisy measurements so that very large data sets can be processed quickly on a personal computer. The algorithms are adaptive so that unknown parameters can be estimated from the data. Both deterministic and stochastic models are used.

He earned his BA in electrical engineering from Rice University and his MS and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1972. He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1974.
