It’s Black History Month! Because of this, the Washington Post has been posting old articles about historical African American figures, including a list from 2017 titled “16 notable African American inventors and entrepreneurs.”
James West, a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was named among those the Washington Post listed. West developed the foil electret microphone, a device that is now featured in 90 percent of microphones.
Among those West is recognized with are George Washington Carver and Percy Julian.
