Muyinatu Bell, an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering with a joint appointment in biomedical engineering, has been chosen by the National Science Foundation for its prestigious Early CAREER Award, which recognizes early-stage scholars with high levels of promise and excellence.

Bell’s research focuses on significantly improving photoacoustic imaging by developing tools that will unconventionally separate light from acoustic receivers and deliver it directly to the surgical site. Her CAREER project, “Technical & Theoretical Foundations for Photoacoustic-Guided Surgery,” has the potential to reduce surgical injuries and complications.
