Julia Carroll is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering, specializing in structural engineering, and is a licensed professional engineer. Her research and academic interests include computational tools in structural engineering, engineering design, sustainability, and engineering education. Before transitioning to a career in academia, she worked for several years as a bridge engineer at AECOM and HNTB.

Carroll is committed to broadening participation in STEM through K-12 outreach, mentoring, and advocacy for underrepresented students in higher education. She is also passionate about using her skills in engineering to improve equity in the built environment.

Carroll is a CaSE alumni having earned her PhD in Civil and Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She holds a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from Tufts University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
