Julia Carroll is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering, specializing in structural engineering. Her research and academic interests include computational tools in structural engineering, engineering design, sustainability, and engineering education. Before transitioning to a career in academia, she worked for several years as a bridge engineer at AECOM and HNTB.

Carroll is committed to broadening participation in STEM through K-12 outreach, mentoring, and advocacy for underrepresented students in higher education. She is also passionate about using her skills in engineering to improve equity in the built environment.

Carroll is a CaSE alumni having earned her PhD in Civil and Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She holds a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from Tufts University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
