Joseph Katz, William F. Ward Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has received the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE)’s 2021 Thermal Fluids Engineering Award, which recognizes substantial contributions to thermal and fluids engineering.
Katz was honored for seminal experiments that advanced the science and led to significant advances in multiphase flow. His research touches on a wide range of fields, including experimental fluid mechanics and the development of advanced optical diagnostics techniques for laboratory and field applications. His group has studied laboratory and oceanic boundary layers, flows in turbomachines, and flow-structure interactions, as well as the cavitation, bubble, and droplet dynamics associated with oil spills.
He was presented with the award at the 2021 ASTFE Conference.
