A headshot of Ciaran Harman wearing an orange shirt.

Harman directs the Landscape Hydrology Lab and has a joint appointment in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Harman’s research sits at the interface between engineering and earth science, and aims to understand how the structure of landscapes controls the movement of water and contaminant from rain to streams, and how that structure evolves over time.

Harman received his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2011. He received the American Geophysical Union Hydrology Section Early Career Award in 2016 and the National Science Foundation Career Award in 2017.

The Russell Croft Faculty Scholarship, a five-year appointment, was endowed by Lo Gordon Croft ’56 to help the Whiting School retain outstanding faculty members.
