Fan Zeng, a graduate student in Dr. James Spicer’s lab, was awarded a Croft Fellowship for the 2015-2016 academic year by the Johns Hopkins Environment, Energy, Sustainability & Health Institute. The award is made possible through a generous gift from Gordon Croft and aims to support doctoral students at Johns Hopkins University who are interested in environment, energy, and sustainability related areas.
The Fellowship will support a research project titled Visible Light Driven Photocatalytic Polymer Matrix Nanocomposites for Water Treatment. The research aims to understand the photocatalytic behavior of polymer matrix nanocomposites (PMNCs) and provide insight for maximizing performance in applications requiring disinfection of water or surfaces. Preliminary results have demonstrated promising potential for visible-light-active photocatalytic PMNCs.
