In the Materials Science and Engineering department at Hopkins, I was able to learn the fundamentals of the structure property relationship in different materials. At the same time I spent many hours working with the JHU Barnstormers in the Swirnow Theater, learning drafting, wood working and welding. The work in both lab and theater complemented each other very well, and in both settings I was able to see the practical applications of what we were learning in class.
Erin Deda, BS 2011
Erin Deda worked with Professor Todd Hufnagel studying the temperature rise during shear banding in bulk metallic glasses. She is the recipient of a Rackham Merit Fellowship and is currently working towards her doctorate at the University of Michigan where she is studying the ductility of die cast magnesium alloys.
