Yuting Luo is an assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and a core faculty member of the Ralph O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI). She joined Hopkins in January 2024.

Before coming to Hopkins, Luo was a postdoctoral associate fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Luo earned her PhD at Texas A&M University 2022, and her BS at Nankai University in China, both in chemistry.

Luo’s research expertise includes designing and characterizing multi-scale materials as well as fundamentally understanding the correlation of chemical, electrochemical, mechanical properties with functional performances for energy storage applications.

The current research in the group is focused on materials design spanning from atomistic design to single particles and 3D architected framework for next-generation electrochemical energy storage, water treatment, metal recovery, and wearable devices.

In addition to interdisciplinary collaborations within Johns Hopkins University, Luo Research Group has close collaborations with Argonne National Lab and Brookhaven National Lab to do ex-situ/ operando synchrotron X-ray characterizations.
