First Mid-Atlantic Biomaterials Day Conference was a Success

On the campus of the City College of New York, the first Mid-Atlantic Biomaterials Day Conference got off to a great start. The event was the first of its kind to be held in the Mid-Atlantic region, with student chapters of the Society for Biomaterials combining to produce the conference. Groups from Johns Hopkins University, The City College of New York, Columbia University, University of Rochester, and Rutgers University all collectively worked to bring together a day of networking and student presentations.

The event’s program consisted of a keynote address by Dr. Liisa Kuhn, from the University of Connecticut, four different plenary speakers, a poster presentation and exhibition session, private and public sector career talks, and a career panel talk. The conference was attended by nearly 100 people and buoyed by enthusiastic student participation. There was also the opportunity to win awards for the Best Rapid Fire Talk and Best Poster. Johns Hopkins student Shoumyo Majumdar was awarded Best Rapid Fire Talk. Society for Biomaterials member Michelangelo Fichera stated, “Our students were able to connect with a lot of different people in the biomaterials field, and we are super excited to continue holding the event in the years to come”.
