Prof. Lauren Gardner is the creator of the interactive web-based dashboard being used by public health authorities, researchers, and the general public around the globe to track the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The dashboard, which debuted on January 22, has been shared by practically every major news outlet worldwide and now receives more than 1 billion usage requests per day. Because of her expertise, Gardner was one of six Johns Hopkins experts who briefed congressional staff about the outbreak during a Capitol Hill event in early March 2020. She recently spoke with Science Magazine about the effort required to create and maintain the COVID-19 tracking map developed by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering.

James Guest and members of his research group are aiding in the development of a 3D-printed ventilator splitter system designed to allow a single ventilator to treat multiple patients. Guest and his group are serving as the technical lead for a team composed of civil, mechanical, and biomedical engineers. Their goal is to leverage their experience in the areas of additive manufacturing and materials design to design components in the ventilation splitter system that meet functionality requirements, while ensuring they can be 3D printed across a variety of printing platforms.
