Somnath Ghosh, the Michael G. Callas Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering, has been selected to receive The Mineral, Metals, and Materials Society’s (TMS) 2023 Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award. This award recognizes an individual who has made a long-lasting contribution to design, syntheses, processing, and performance of engineering materials with significant industrial applications.
Somnath will be formally presented with this honor at TMS’s Annual Meeting, set for March 21, 2023 in San Diego.
His research in computational engineering and sciences focuses on multi-scale computational methods and algorithms integrated with machine learning methods; modeling structure-material deformation, failure and fatigue in metallic, composite, and multifunctional materials; multi-physics modeling and simulation for antenna and damage sensors; additive manufacturing and process simulation; ICME and other fields.
