Congratulations to Ben Schafer, professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering and director of the Cold-Formed Steel Research Consortium, on his election as a Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Fellow. Schafer is one of the world’s leading experts on structures designed from steel, and his research focuses on increasing the efficiency and safety of steel buildings – particularly under extreme hazards.
A division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the SEI aims to improve professional practice, spark technological advancement, and promote members’ careers.
He and the other 2020 Fellows will be recognized formally at SEI’s Structures Congress 2020, set for early April in St. Louis.
