Congratulations to faculty member Rachel Sangree, who recently was promoted to Senior Lecturer!
Sangree teaches courses in the area of structural engineering and serves as the department’s Director of Undergraduate Studies and Program Chair for EP Civil Engineering, Johns Hopkins’ part-time master’s degree program. Prior to joining the civil engineering faculty at JHU, Rachel earned her BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from Bucknell University, her PhD from Johns Hopkins University, and worked as a design engineer in the bridge group at Whitman, Requardt, and Associates, in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland. Rachel is interested in improving the treatment of historic structures, identifying and implementing effective teaching methods in the structural engineering undergraduate curriculum, and exploring methods to attract and retain future generations of civil engineers through community engagement and K-12 outreach.
The promotion process requires approval from Academic Council, who wants to see evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring, as well as leadership in education of our students.
We are truly fortunate to have such a steadfast advocate for our students.
