For Ashley Feldman, Civil Engineering is the perfect intersection of her fascination with “how things work” and her love of the arts. Based on the classes she has taken in the discipline so far, Ashley has discovered that she has an affinity to structural engineering—essentially the “how things work” of the art of architecture. Ashley says she enjoys being part of the “tight-knit community” of the Civil Engineering Department at Hopkins. “You get to know your classmates really well, and the professors are so nice—Their doors are always open,” she continues.“It’s important to balance fun and work,” Ashley says, and Hopkins is the place to do just that. When she’s not studying structural engineering or taking other classes toward her major, Ashley is pursuing a minor in Art History, leading tours of Homewood campus for prospective students a Blue Key tour guide, riding horses with Johns Hopkins Equestrian Club, leading backpacking and caving trips for Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club, dancing with the student-run Eclectics Dance Group, or participating with Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity.
