Working in a lab in the Materials Science Department helped me discover a love of research and build skills both in performing experiments and presenting results. The hands-on experience I got during the semester gave me an advantage when applying for summer internships and graduate school and helped me decide that I wanted to pursue a career in science. Additionally, I enjoyed the sense of community in the department and the ability to get to know professors personally that would not be possible in a larger major.
