The SABES Instructor will lead the students through the curriculum and Student Driven Projects in weekly instruction.
The SABES Coach will provide support and guidance for the SABES Instructor through weekly lesson plan review, site check-ins, observations, and monthly professional development sessions.
The SABES Mentor will assist the SABES Instructor in the classroom twice a month, or when available.
During the 2014-2015 SY, Student-driven projects varied greatly among school sites and grades. Project topics included gardening, composting, bulletin board covers, electronic rat repellents, water filtration for drinking and garden use, water skimming devices to clean water pollution, soundproofing, model lockers and railroad safety.

Specifically, the 4th graders at Barclay Elementary/Middle School decided to start a composting campaign to support the school’s garden. They researched composting, learned about the process through field trips and guest speakers, tested methods on a small class compost batch and ultimately piloted their implementation plan during one lunch period.
Professional Development will be held monthly on the Wednesdays during which Baltimore City Schools have half days for students due to staff professional development.
