We’re looking for volunteers to support the upcoming STEM Outreach events. These are fun, hands-on events where you and the members of your group can promote science and engineering among local Baltimore City youth and give back to the community! Details are below and we’d love for you to share the opportunities with your members.





 

Maryland Science Olympiad Div. B (Middle School) State Tournament

  • Date: Saturday, March 29th – various shifts between 7:00am – 8:00pm
  • Location: Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus – 3400 N. Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21218
  • About: Maryland Science Olympiad (MSO) is hosting the annual State tournament for the top 24 middle school teams across Maryland to compete for a spot at Nationals. Students will compete in 23+ STEM events like anatomy, forensics, and engineering design challenges. Volunteers will help as proctors, graders, judges, timers, and many other logistics roles. No previous experience required!
  • Who can volunteer: Anyone age 18+
  • Perks: Free volunteer t-shirts and lunch for full day volunteers

2025 Barclay Science and Engineering Expo for Barclay Families

  • Date: Thursday, April 3rd from 3:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Location: Barclay EMS – 2900 Barclay St.  Baltimore, MD 21218 – just a few blocks East of the Homewood Campus!
  • About: An annual event engaging local families in hands-on engineering challenges, that also highlights student achievement in STEM projects this school year. Help support hands-on STEM activities, an Egg Drop Challenge, a photo booth, prize table and more!
  • Who can volunteer: Any JHU affiliate (faculty, staff, student, or alumni) age 18+
  • Perks: Volunteer t-shirts & complimentary pizza dinner!

*Note: These events serve minors and require a background check and a child safety training. There is no cost to volunteers and details are provided after registration on how to complete the screening process.
