In addition to running several long-term programs year–round, our office also coordinates, hosts, and sponsors a variety of one-day or short-term events to promote STEM. These programs run anywhere from 2-12 hours in length and provide more pathways for us to engage the community in STEM enrichment. Check out a selection of this year’s one day events below:

Barclay Events - At Family Engineering Day, families of elementary-age student come to JHU campus for one-day interactive engineering challenge. At Barclay Science & Engineering Expo, Barclay students and family members engage in hands-on engineering activities and an egg drop challenge led by Clark Scholars and volunteers! Read more

Hopkins Robotics Cup - K-12 students from Baltimore City compete in the VEX IQ and VEX VRC Championship tournaments hosted by our office in partnership with City Schools. Volunteers include JHU and community members, serving as judges at the events. Funding for this event has been provided by our long-term sponsor, Northrup Grumman. Read more

Maryland Science Olympiad - In partnership with Maryland Science Olympiad, the state chapter of the national organization, our Center has hosted the annual Maryland State Tournament at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus for over 10 years. Read more

SABES Events - SABES Events, such as the STEM Showcase, bring the community together around STEM by providing accessible opportunities for hands-on engagement. The STEM Showcase offers a forum for students to share their projects with each other, their families and their community. Read more

Tower of Power - In this annual event, Maryland middle schools participate in a spaghetti and marshmallow building challenge. The top 5 teams advance to compete in-person at the Homewood campus event!
