Media Team Meets Demand for Hybrid Events

Hybrid campus events increased in popularity in the wake of Covid and the CLDT Multimedia team at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering was ready to take on the challenge. Although some restrictions are easing, many campus events still limit the number of in-person attendees. Fortunately, our production crew has livestream capabilities that make attending online just as engaging as in person.

From town halls to professional lecture series to unique events like Tower of Power celebrating National Engineers Week, our team captures the heart of campus events and delivers an exciting online experience. The success of these livestream events is due to a mix of creative design, equipment planning, and on-site support from production crews running the operation.

Creatively combining production and standard AV equipment allows us to maintain a small footprint while still delivering high-quality video productions to online viewers. These techniques were on full display at the Whiting School of Engineering’s Tower of Power event where the camera operator was able to move cable free among teams, giving online viewers an up-close view of the action. Pairing multiple camera views with a countdown timer relayed the excitement of this event to virtual viewers.

With no sign of hybrid requests slowing down, our Multimedia team is ready to capture live, in-person events to create virtual campus experiences for online audiences.
