ASCE Steel Bridge Design Team 2026: Rio Grande Cantilever Bridge
- Program: Civil and Systems Engineering
- Course: Clubs
- Year: 2026
Project Description:
Every year, the ASCE Steel Bridge Team takes place in a nationwide civil engineering competition to build a bridge onsite for a hypothetical scenario. This year’s challenge involved designing a bridge that would cross the Rio Grande in El Paso, Texas. The bridge had to span over 20 feet and support a load of 2,500 pounds, while also providing aesthetic appeal and adhering to strict design and construction specifications. This was the first year the team manufactured the bridge entirely themselves, including all cutting and welding of steel materials. At the competition, the team managed to build the bridge under the 45-minute time limit and passed the lateral sway test.
